Being Kind, Being Thankful

Thanks for coming today. It was wonderful to hear about the thoughtful deeds you've been doing. We talked about the importance of making kindness and helpfulness a part of your daily lives...not just something you do for a week. And it doesn't have to be anything big, either. Small kindnesses are very much appreciated, and they add up! Here were some of the kind acts that the Sisters did over the last week:

* Helped a friend's mom who had a broken ankle--pushed her wheelchair
* Complemented a teacher's shoes
* Helped someone who dropped something pick it all up
* Shared your lunch with a friend
* Gave away your special Student of the Month treat (doughnut)
* Participated in our school's food drive
* Included someone to join you in an activity
* Opened doors for people
* Stayed up and kept your sister company so she wouldn't be lonely and afraid
* Smiled at people more often

How does it feel when you do nice things for others? Please comment!

With the holidays coming up, we talked about ways you can give and help others during the season. Here are some things that some Sisters do:

* A teacher Sister shared how when she and her girlfriends go shopping every year, they always bring a handful of ones in their pockets to give to the Salvation Army bell ringers.
* Several Sisters talked about how their family 'adopts' another family to buy gifts for. One Sister shared how last year her family and some other family friends helped out several families in need, including giving family gifts on each of the twelve days of Christmas!
* One Sister trick-or-treated for UNICEF this year.
* One Sister collects toy donations and then gives them to a hospital.
* One Sister is knitting hats to donate to a homeless shelter. Her goal this year is to knit 25.
* Several Sisters have sent cards and care packages to soldiers overseas. If you'd like to send some holiday cheer to a soldier who has been injured in the war, send your card or package to:
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Ave. NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

We closed with a go-around where every Sister said something she was thankful for, since next Thursday is Thanksgiving and there will be no Sisterhood that day. Thank you for sharing. One girl said, "I'm thankful for the Sisterhood." I second that.

Doing stuff for others makes the whole day better even if I didn't do anything for myself. For people that haven't done anything for other people, it's an feeling that can't be replaced. :)
Happy Holidays everybody.

Yep, I am thankful for the Sisterhood. That is what makes our school special. We (the sisters) are always spreading the love! I think this Thanksgiving will be the most meaningful because I shared it with you girls! Thanks!!

Famous People have so many rules that when they see someone needs their help they just pass by. It doesn't matter whether you are Famous or not,helping people just makes you a better person that is truly you. No one can tell you who to be if you are not that person. You have your own life and no one can tell you what to do with it. As long as you are doing the right thing and using it for good there is NOHING to worry about.

I'm thankful for the world! I love doing stuff for others. I always get a great reward (feeling) after they say thank you. Some people don't care they are not so thankful. I think they just expect people to do that for them they just don't realize what's in front of them. I feel bad for those people. I wonder what those people will be like when they're older? I'm so glad there are people like giving people. I hope we could do more sisterhoods for the rest of the year. I wish everyone was thankful for something in the world!

Yes, nobody that goes to PLMS should have a hard time feeling thankful. We are all very, very lucky and should give to others. I am personaly thankful for my friends, music, and the sisterhood!

Yes, I agree. At PLMS there are very few things not to be thankfull for. As for giving to others, the feeling that you get once you see you have made a difference is very rewarding. The hard part is doing it to someone that you might not like that much. But afterwards, just being nice to them might change that.

I think it's time all the boys stepped up and make a "brotherhood" ;-) i think guys at plms are so cute right now and i'd love them if they started doing nice things it'd be cute.
