womanizer! :-) Today we talked about movies, tv shows and books (sounds fun, doesn't it?), and which ones show a positive message. We talked about what we liked and why, and sometimes how what we like may not always have the best message, if we look at it closely. Examples of that: Indiana Jones (all of them),Grease, Two and a Half Men, Pretty Woman, and even American Idol (Simon makes rude comments about some female singers' weight and it sometimes seems like the cutest contestants get the most votes). Reality tv came up, too. Sure, it's entertaining and maybe that's enough sometimes, but what does a show really mean? With America's Top Model, it's great that a "plus-sized" model can win, but in the real world, that winner wasn't "plus-sized," she was normal-sized. A Sister brought up Deal or No Deal where it's all money, money, money. When you read books and watch tv and movies, think about what they're saying about the SISTERS and choose accordingly. Or just sit and be entertained regardless...that's ok, too. Here's our list of the good:
Movies: Bend It Like Beckham, Whale Rider, Pretty In Pink, Uptown Girls, She's the Man, Save the Last Dance, A Walk to Remember, Step Up.
Books: The Secret Life of Bees, Stargirl, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Walk Two Moons, Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras, Understanding Betsy.
What do you like? Please share!!!!

I love the 2007 movie Hairspray. It is one of my favorite musicals and Tracy ends up fighting for justice.
Sometimes, if you take away the bad stuff, movies get too G rated. Like high school musical. they copied Grease, but made it G rated. I thought it was was too G rated. All the girls wore 1 piece swimsuits, which would not happen in real life.
In indiana jones(I forget which one) and king kong(old one) the females in those movies are "lay around on there butts and rely on the man" type of characters. My mom and me are always yelling at those girls just because we don't like people thinking we're damsels in distress. I am a strong mixed girl and assert my presence whenever needed. So all those girls out there who rely on a man, get with the times and assert.
im not a big fan of indiana jones... (in fact i hate it) and i only saw one movie when i was seven and i still remember it and that i did NOT like it... besides, now i only like horror movies and on the occasion, comedy.
