We started our discussion today with an excellent comment left on last week's post:
A Sister wrote: "I think we don't give ourselves permission because we are afraid of what will happen and what people are going to think."
Hmmmmmm. I asked the Sisters today if they agreed with this and most did. Do you? And who are these 'people' who we are so concerned about? Of course we care what our friends and family think, but I'm talking about 'people'--those faceless strangers in our community who are there to judge us. Think about it...
What would you like to give yourself permission for, but can't? What's stopping you? What are you afraid of?
Does thinking too much about what others think keep you from being your true self?
One Sister said that since starting middle school she has made a lot of new friends by just being who she is. That's great! The Sisterhood encourages all girls (and teacher Sisters, too) to be who you are and your SISTERS will back you up! And to like yourself, too (and no--that's not being conceited). As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Friendship with oneself is all-important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world."
Amen, Sister.

Oh my gosh! It was fun to hear what everyone had to say. I just want to grow wings and fly to Japan! ^_^
1. people care what other people think b/c they feel they'll be cool. but think about it, how are you going to be cool when you don't even know the person.
2. whens the lip sync auditions it's no where on the website;)
you know what? have you EVER actually SEEN someone saying 'I don't like you for who you are.'? or at least something along those borders? 'cause i know I sure haven't!
Fly to Japan?
Umm....? Why? That was random!
I actually agree, though, I'd LOVE to go to a place where people who like to spend time alone aren't thougt to be depressed.
Why do we care what 'people' think?
Well maybe we don't, really. Maybe what we PRETEND we don't do becuase of what people will think we really don't do because we don't understand what we, OURSELVES, will think. Some part of us, subconciously, maybe?
Also, off topic, but have you ever hated someone so much that just seeing them and hearing their voice put you in a bad mood? Someone you COULDN'T get away from, like a teacher? If so, what did you do about it?
Its normal and ok to care what some people might think. A teacher, boss, parents,or really good friends. I still can't get why me and lots of other girls care so much what random people think.
ooo! good point in the pretend to care what people think point, its so true. Like everybody pretends to think their fat, ugly, or like some girls pretend to be stupid because everyone else does that, too.
oh, and if you don't like someone you can't get away from, don't make that a big deal, and it might just not be. I learned that last year the hard way, so trust me.
Someone said that we shouldn't dress for other people, but that's not always true. You can either be yourself, or you can be controlled by other peoples opinions, and it's always your decision.
well, ppl care about wat ppl think b/c usually first impressions are very important and if the first impression is a boring, weird, and unlikable, ppl wont want to be around u as much because they will think they won't have as much fun..
but besides that, i dont think that u should try to be somebody else b/c u'll have to try harder to become somebody's friend and people should just like u for who u are and not like u for something ur not but try to b.
we dress for other girls b/c boys don't really care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
